March Madness Scramble - Spring Tournament 2008
March 7th and 8th, 2008

- info updated 2/15/08 -

On Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, the NED will be hosting a quiz tournament at the Jamestown C&MA Church in the format of a scramble. A Scramble means that WE will make up the teams at the district level from all of the quizzers who register. This is new concept that was suggested 2 years ago at a district planning session. Since many quizzers expressed an interest in it - we are going to go for it. There will still be top ten quizzing at the end of the day and individual prizes.

Material to be covered

  • Seniors: Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians 1 & 2
Quiz Masters:   Nate Stout, Bill Swan, and Marcia Keller

Coaches so far:   Dee Huntingdon, Bill Klemick, Carl Swan, Carol Traina, Rick Stout, Dan O'Brien-Mazza, Tammy Godyn, Liz Kent, Georgia Phipps, Chris Blowers, Jenni Stout and Linda Kent. If you are willing to coach, please let Joan or Claudine know!

Cost: Since we will not be registering by teams, there will be an individual fee. This fee includes Saturday lunch. If you are coming as a spectator or coach, you only need to donate towards the lunch.

Quizzers - $8 (includes Saturday lunch
                               of spaghetti & meatballs)

Non-quizzers - $3 suggested donation
                                                           per person for lunch

Friday Night Activity: Bowling at Fountain Bowl on Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown, NY from 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM. $2 per game, shoes FREE. We will meet at the bowling since it is right off of I-86. If you are staying in a host home, your host will meet you at the bowling alley at 9:30 PM.
Directions: See below
Friday Night Dining: The bowling alley has a snack bar and restaurant. There is also an Arby's if you turn left at the blinking light instead of right for the bowling alley. There is also a small McDonalds and a Bob Evans off of I-86 and Rte. 60 at the Jamestown exit (exit #12 of I-86). If you are coming from Buffalo, there are many fast food places at the Dunkirk exit for Jamestown.

Housing:
FREE - For everyone using free housing, ALL quizzers need to bring sleeping bags and pillows as most of you will be sleeping on the floor. Coaches get beds or a sofa. If you are staying in a host home, your host will meet you at the bowling alley at 9:30 PM. If you have not called Joan Eppehimer (716-483-1424) yet, please call as soon as possible or you will have to sleep at the church. She is running out of room. When you call, please give the number of (M and F) and how many boys and girls are with your group, and whether or not your group can be split up.
Motels: Best Western - $80 per night. You must call JOAN EPPEHIMER (716-483-1424) to get this rate. Best Western provides a good continental breakfast, has a pool, and is across the street from the Ice Arena and down the street from the church.

There will be a truck stop on your left (it's closed) just before I-86. Take I-86 west to the next exit - Strunk Road (exit 11). At the bottom of the ramp turn left. Go to the stop sign/blinking light and turn right. Go about 100 feet and Fountain Bowl will be on your right.

Directions to the C&MA Church from I-86

Take the Jamestown exit (exit no. 12) and follow Route 60 South into the city. At the traffic light at West 3rd St. turn right. Follow West 3rd St. past the ice arena and across the bridge. Once across the bridge you will see a small plaza at your left (at the light) and Aldo's Diner on your right. Go through the light. Our church is at the end of the block on the left. We are directly across the street from the Southside Christian Center.

Use on street parking. Jamestown has "even/odd" parking on the side streets. On Saturday, park on the opposite side of the church on Lakin or Ellis Ave. as it is even (by 10 a.m. all cars will move to that side).

On 3rd Street you can park both sides.
